La CV Whitney Cup (EE.UU.) fue establecida en 1979 en reconocimiento a la trayectoria de Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney (Hijo de Harry Payne Whitney), quien llego a tener 6 goles de handicap y obtuvo 3 veces el abierto de los Estados Unidos; en 1928 con Meadow Brook y en 1937 y 1938 con su club Old Westbury.
