El Hándicap
Fue en 1888 cuando Henry L. Herbert, presidente de la USPA (United States Polo Assn.), creó el hándicap para dar un mayor equilibrio al juego del polo, considerando la máxima valorización 5 y la minima 0. Esta medida fue adoptada luego por la HPA (Hurlingham Polo Assn.).
En 1890 se cambio el tope máximo a 10 y en 1891 el norteamericano Foxhall Parker Keene se convirtió en el primer jugador en conseguir los 10 goles de hándicap con tan solo 18 años de edad…, mientras en Inglaterra se descendía el mínimo a -2 para separar mejor a los jugadores de en menor nivel.
En 1911 la River Plate Polo Assn. (una de las antecesoras de la actual Asociación Argentina del Polo (AAP)) adoptaba dicha asignación de medidas, y la HPA otorgaba a Walter Buckmaster, Devereux Milburn y Henry P. Whitney la mayor valorización, los argentinos, recién en 1913 otorgan 10 goles a John A. E. Traill y en 1915 a Luis L. Lacey.
A más de un siglo de su implementación las distintas asociaciones del mundo han otorgado a más de un centenar de jugadores los 10 goles de hándicap.

The Handicap
It was in 1888 that Henry L. Herbert, president of the USPA (United States Polo Assn.), created the handicap to give a better balance to the polo game, considering the maximum value 5 and the minimum 0. This measure was adopted later by The HPA (Hurlingham Polo Assn.).
In 1890 the maximum was changed to 10 and in 1891 the American Foxhall Parker Keene became the first player to get the 10 goals of handicap with only 18 years of age ..., while in England the minimum dropped to -2 for better separating players.
In 1911 the River Plate Polo Assn. (One of the predecessors of the current Asociación Argentina del Polo (AAP) adopted this allocation of measures, and the HPA gave Walter Buckmaster, Devereux Milburn and Henry P. Whitney the greatest valorization, the Argentines. Additional players 10-goals achievement was reckonized in 1913 for John AE Traill, followed by Luis L. Lacey in 1915.
More than a century of its creation, the equestrian polo associations of the world have granted to more than a hundred of players the 10-goals handicap.
