Su anfitrión El Santa MarĂa Polo Club tiene su origen en 1965 cuando su fundador Enrique Zobel construye la emblematica cancha de polo en "La Playa".
The first tournament was in 1971 and for more than 45 years the Gold Cup of Sotogrande to date is the most important season in Spain and much of the European continent. It is considered as one of the four most important tournaments in the world.
It is now hosted by El Santa Maria Polo Club, this club originated in 1965 when its founder Enrique Zobel constructed the emblematic polo field in "The Beach".
By 1971 the Gold Cup of Sotogrande was a particular attraction for polo fans. Remembered for its beautiful coastal location, 'The Beach' became a European destination. Unfortunately, a decade later a storm destroyed the field.
